Mazda Protege Short block engine by Barnettes

Have a true surface on an engine block is just as important as having a true surface on a cylinder head during engine assembly. By having a surfaced block and cylinder head, the possibility of "blowing" a head gasket is tremendously reduced. Always use a new head gasket. Make sure the head bolts are new if they are torque-to-yield or better known as stretch bolts. Using a spray tack on the gasket will add to the gaskets sealing power. And always, always, always check the torque specifications and sequences for tightening the head bolts. NEVER guess!
